Recently, you may have seen an article
in Marin IJ about a coyote in Marin City.
Coyotes are potentially very dangerous to both you and your DOG.
Do not be lulled into thinking they are safe. They are not! Please read the following two articles which contain
very valuable advice.
This one is very precise.
Be sure to note the 10 Tips which also are posted at the bottom of this.
The Marin Humane Society takes more
of a "live and let live" approach, we need to be extremely careful. Hopefully there will be no tragedies.

To
guard against coyote attacks on your pets:
1.
Never leave pets outside without supervision, even - or especially - in your own back yard. To be completely safe, cats should
always be kept indoors.
2. If you install
a fence for protection, be sure it's at least six feet high and one foot deep.
3. When walking a dog, use a short leash so that the dog remains close to your side. At
night, carry a flashlight, walking stick or loud whistle to scare off a coyote.
4. If you encounter a coyote, make a lot of noise and wave your arms to look as menacing
as possible. Don't run or turn your back on the animal. Face the coyote and back slowly away.
5. Keep pet food and water dishes indoors.
6. Keep bird feeder areas clean.
7. Cover and secure outdoor trash cans.
8. Remove brush and dense areas near your house where rodents or other wildlife can make
their homes and attract larger predators.
9.
If you have fruit trees or berry shrubs on your property, pick up the dropped fruit.
10. Don't ever feed, approach or otherwise interact with a coyote. They are
naturally fearful of humans - keep it that way.
