December 9th deadline approaching and other GGNRA developments
Hi All,
The Dec. 9 deadline
is fast approaching for comments to the GGNRA 20-year general management plan. While this plan may seem different from the
dog management proposal, the fundamental designation of recreation is at risk. It threatens not only on- and off-leash dog
walking, but also other recreational activities at places like Fort Funston, Ocean Beach, Muir Beach, Mori Point and popular
coastal hiking trails throughout GGNRA. According to the new Plan, over 90% of GGNRA land will be classified as “natural
zones,” managed to provide “backcountry types of visitor experiences” and to "aggressively" manage
natural resource threats.
The previous dog management plan failed to make a case that dogs are
a significant threat to the environment and, similarly, there is no justification in the current plan that other forms of
current recreation have a significant adverse effect. It’s crucial that public comment to support continuing today's
healthy and diverse recreation and to oppose the plan. Please continue to do your part to get the word out - flier attached
- and encourage people to comment by December 9.
Connecting the Dots
…
1.
It takes 2 minutes to comment on the general plan. See suggestions here: http://saveoffleash.wordpress.com/two-minute-comment-to-gmp/
2. The GGNRA general plan is another attempt by the National Park Service to change the fundamental purpose of
its legislative mandate by Congress to “provide needed space for recreation in an urban area.” It’s wrong
and not legal:http://oceanbeachdog.home.mindspring.com/id81.html
3. The proposed “natural
zone” calls for managing more than 90% of GGNRA as bird and plant sanctuaries. It’s no mistake that popular recreation
activities that may have minor impacts, such as normal wear and tear on the environment, are being omitted in this new
plan:http://saveoffleash.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/natural-zone-terminology-allows-excluding-recreation.doc

Subject: Missing Female Border Collie Mix - under 2 yrs - lost
at overhill drive trail - 'JEDDA'
| At approx 6:30pm on Friday, November 18th, 2011, a black and white border collie/labrador mix
was lost just at the beginning of the overhill trail head - near camino alto. She weighs approx 60-65lbs and is
just under 2 years old, extremely friendly and is wearing a BLUE collar with fish skeleton prints...and NO tags. A
friend inadvertently put her old collar on when she was taken for a walk today and there are no identifying tags. She
is blue/black, has an entirely black face, other than white around her nose and than has clear white double saddle marking
on her body. Her legs are also white with grey speckling and her tail is white tipped. She is very sweet and
friendly, her only fear is to be pulled by her collar, but she is not snappy....probably just tired and confused by now.
We spent the entire evening searching for along the golf course as well as up down the trail, but could not find
her. She answers to the name Jedda and she is dearly, dearly loved....a recent rescue from Milo foundation, adopted
on June 15th, 2011. Her Milo ID # is 15615 - and her microchip is FDXA0A11547B0F. Her intake date was 6/8/11.
Please immediately contact Sayo Murase at mobile # 646.359.1865. I reside at 24 Parkwood Avenue in Mill Valley,
CA, 94941.....I am deeply concerned about finding this beautiful dog. Thank
you |

IN THE PARK at:
6:35 PM - btw, the forecast high temperature for Friday is 59!
On Friday,
